Our city is hurting, and many are living in fear.

We see the unrest in our city. We see people are hurting, confused and sometimes scared. The enemy is at work to divide, steal, kill and destroy. With our eyes fixed on Jesus, we want to respond in peace and provide for physical needs (James 2:16). We want to help in ways that do not cause more hurt or risk.

Our first response is to cry out to the One who is the source of true protection, provision and hope. Now, we feel the Holy Spirit leading us to action.

We’re leaning into our connections to determine needs. We’ve spoken to denomination leaders and other faith-based organizations who are close to the situation and those hurting. This includes a Latino pastor with close ties to other churches in the area that have large immigrant communities. We’ve also reached out to local first responders and federal agents.

Here are actions we’re taking:

We’ll give financially.

We know Latino churches that have experienced a drop of more than 60% in giving. At this time, we’ve selected one Christian Immigrant Covenant Church* to financially support. This church is at risk, and our contribution will allow pastors to serve out their call and care for their congregations during this difficult time.

You can give online or in the Church Center app using the “Church Initiative Deductible” option in the dropdown. If sending a check, please specify “Church Initiative Deductible” in the memo field.

We’ll give our time and talents.

We’ll provide on-site volunteers for the church we’ve partnered with. We’ll serve in kids’ ministry and as parking lot assistants and greeters. Registration will be required.

We may mobilize a small team to help shop in specific Latino food markets and deliver food to designated locations. We want to protect confidentiality and are taking instructions from the lead pastor of the church we’re serving.

If you’re interested in joining either of these teams please email Charlene Williams, charlene@plymouthcovenant.org. Spanish fluency not required, but a plus.

We’ll continue to pray.

We’ll pray big, bold prayers for restoration. We’ll be organizing prayer groups to gather in locations throughout the city. We’ll go to first responders and community members and pray with them. We’ll gather in February for another evening of prayer.

We’re providing this prayer guide. We encourage you to gather with family, friends and neighbors in your homes and cry out to God, asking Him for ways to reach the needs of those in the communities He has placed you in.

Thank you for your prayers and generosity as we provide for those who have needs in our city.

Grace and peace.
